Michael Martinez, LPC

You may not be able to choose every circumstance you face, but you can choose how you understand it, how you respond to it, and what kind of person you want to become.

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from MidAmerica Nazarene University in May 2026, following a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Kansas. Throughout my journey, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of mental health settings and with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

My clinical experience includes working in acute inpatient hospitals with both adults and adolescents, providing support in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) clinics for children with intellectual disabilities, and facilitating therapy groups for individuals in recovery from addiction. I have worked with individuals and couples experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, multicultural mental health, autism, bipolar disorder, substance use, and various personality disorders.

My approach to therapy centers on building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, comfortable, heard, and empowered. I believe therapy is most effective when clients feel respected and supported while also having the opportunity to develop practical skills, be challenged, and gain meaningful insight that can be applied to their everyday lives. I primarily draw from modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and Existential therapy.

I also strive to support individuals from multicultural backgrounds through a multicultural perspective, recognizing that each person’s experiences are shaped by their culture, family, relationships, values, and individual circumstances. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counseling, and I work collaboratively with each client to develop treatment that reflects their unique needs, strengths, and goals.I believe therapy provides a space to examine our lives with honesty, curiosity, and compassion—to better understand where we have been, recognize what may no longer be serving us, and discover how we want to move forward.
